Jersey Number Four: 2019 Stadium Series

Okay, before you virtually try to throw something at me for putting these above the Flyers’ current road threads, here me out. I, like any other fan out there, absolutely hated this jersey at first glance. It gave off Charlie Brown’s The Great Pumpkin vibes, and I thought they could go down as one of the worst Orange and Black jerseys in the history of the franchise. However, they did end up growing on me, especially when I saw them with the full attire.

After the Flyers and Penguins jerseys got leaked onto social media about a month before their official reveal, Philadelphia finally confirmed the design at the beginning of February of 2019. They did so by releasing a video onto their Twitter account with a couple of close-up shots of the sweater, similar to what they did with the 50th Anniversary threads. Philadelphia would go on to defeat their in-state rival at Lincoln Financial Field, taking the W thanks to an overtime, game-winner from Giroux.

As I mentioned above, a majority of the Flyers faithful weren’t huge fans of the predominantly orange-look, unleashing a barrage of negative opinions in the mentions of that initial tweet. Again, I was with the fanbase, to begin with, but eventually took a liking to the jersey the more I saw them. They definitely won’t go down as my favorite, or even one of my favorite Flyers uniforms of all time, but I can say that I was wrong in thinking they could’ve been one of the worst sweaters ever. They’re fine and got elevated when the helmet was included, so I give them a solid just-below average rating for this list.
