The Flyers will face the Capitals in their second to last game before the 4 Nations break.

Washington can win the season series with a victory. They’ve outscored Philadelphia 10-4 in the two games played thus far. The two haven’t seen each other since October, though, so a lot has changed on both sides.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers finally scored a goal in their last game, avoiding a new franchise-record scoreless streak. The goal came from Rodrigo Abols, his first in the NHL. However, that wasn’t enough to break Philadelphia’s losing streak. They’ve now lost four straight and six of their last seven.

They continue to have a depleted lineup as none of their injured players will be available. They’ve still been unable to get Andrei Kuzmenko and Jakob Pelletier on board. Kuzmenko’s visa situation was handled, but his flight from Toronto was delayed due to the weather. The hope is now to have them both available for Saturday’s game.

After Sam Ersson put up what John Tortorella called his best performance of the season, it will be Ivan Fedotov’s turn to try and put up his best efforts. He has lost his last six starts, but his most recent games have not been poor outings. He could use a win, though.

Washington Capitals

The Capitals have continued to surprise as they are first in the Metro and second in the entire league with 77 points. They have points in four straight games, two of those being overtime losses. One of the most surprising things is that Washington has not lost more than two in a row this entire season.

Alex Ovechkin continues to defy the odds as he works toward breaking Wayne Gretzky’s record for career goals. Ovechkin, leading the Capitals with 25 goals, sits 17 goals away from history. He can’t get them all in one game, but he does have 50 career goals in 76 games against Philadelphia.

Charlie Lindgren and Logan Thompson have formed an admirable duo for the Capitals. It’ll be the former in the net against the Flyers. He gave up one goal in the matchup on Oct. 22. On the season, Lindgren has a 2.61 GAA and a .903 SV%.
