The Philadelphia Flyers are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 27, after a two-day break. Their three-game winning streak ended against the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday. Now, the Flyers are looking to get back into the win column as they get ready to host the Columbus Blue Jackets.
As the Flyers get ready to get back onto the ice, here are two storylines to follow throughout their game.
Michael Bunting checks back in
Bunting joined the Flyers on a one-year contract earlier this month and has appeared in seven games. He was a healthy scratch for the team’s last two games, but will check back into the lineup against the Blue Jackets. Bunting has hovered around 10 minutes of ice time per game, aside from the 15 minutes he played in the Flyers’ first win of the season against Ottawa.
Bunting has just one point in his seven games and is still looking for his first goal with the Flyers. He’s a long way away from his most effective offensive years in Toronto, but he has still been a decent contributor in recent years. While their offense has largely been carried by Matvei Michkov in recent games, they will need to find other players to contribute on a more regular basis if they want to have sustained success.
It’s possibly Bunting takes over the spot that was occupied by Jacob Gaucher, who was sent down and subsequently recalled after Rasmus Ristolainen was placed on injured reserve.
York back in the lineup
Defenseman Cam York last played with the Flyers on Oct. 8. Since then, he has been sidelined with an upper-body injury. He missed the last eight games. Ahead of this game against the Blue Jackets, York was activated off of injured reserve. In addition, the team announced York will return to the lineup tonight, effectively replacing the injured Ristolainen. It was an optional morning skate, so there’s no word on where he’ll slot in.
York has been an effective member of the Flyers' blue line to kick off the season. Since York exited the lineup, the Flyers have since recorded their first win and two more on top of that. Now that Philadelphia is getting another seasoned defenseman back into the lineup, York will have to do a good job of keeping the blue line in check.
