The Philadelphia Flyers had a rough start to the season, but after their past few games, it's hard to believe that anymore. After dropping their first nine straight games, the Flyers are currently on a three-game winning streak.
On Saturday, Oct. 24, the Flyers are preparing to host the Anaheim Ducks for a matinee game, with puck drop scheduled for 1 PM ET. Here are two storylines to follow as Philadelphia looks to extend its win streak to four games.
Flyers could see the return of injured defenseman
Both Cam York and Rasmus Ristolainen were participants at Flyers practice on Friday, ahead of this game. Both defensemen were injured earlier in the season; Ristolainen's injury is retroactive to Oct. 3, and York's upper-body injurywas listed as day-to-day on Oct. 10. With both players participating in practice, this return is a good sign that these two defensemen are trending towards returning to the lineup.
Flyers journalist Jordan Hall shared on social media that Rick Tocchet said Ristolainen is a possibility for Saturday, while York is uncertain. While it's great the veteran defenseman could return to the lineup, it poses the question who will come out.
Luckily, it won't be rookie defenseman Oliver Bonk. He played in six games so far this season and has recorded four assists. Bonk has had a great scoring touch while also adding pressure on the blue line for Philadelphia. While his minutes will be getting reduced, the fact that Tocchet recognizes what Bonk has done for the Flyers to start the season is a great sign that he will get to continue playing on NHL ice.
Ducks, Flyers could be a feisty matchup again
In the past few seasons, the Ducks and Flyers have worked out some interesting trades, sending Cutter Gauthier to the Flyers in exchange for Jamie Drysdale. Trevor Zegras was also sent to the Flyers in exchange for Ryan Poehling.
During the 2026 offseason, the Flyers also sent Leo Carlsson an offer sheet, receiving a five-year contract with an average annual value (AAV) of $18 million. The Ducks inevitably matched the offer sheet.
This will be the first time these two teams face each other after the offer sheet situation went down. With tensions already flying high from the trades in the last few seasons, this game will certainly be one to watch.
