The Philadelphia Flyers are making some big moves ahead of the trade deadline.

Sunday is supposed to be a day to relax and unwind before the week ahead. If you’re the Philadelphia Flyers, it’s a day to make sure you are making deals and keeping players ahead of the trade deadline. There are players that need to be signed as well as decisions about the team going forward. A good sign is that the Flyers are making a big final push into the playoffs and are within three points of a place in the postseason. It’s good to see that there is hope for the Flyers to continue a push towards the Stanley Cup. A huge win over Arizona Coyotes over the weekend added to the team’s good news. If you missed it, catch up on the win and other Flyers trade news in Sunday’s edition of Buzz on the Street.

Michael Raffl Signs Multi-Year Deal With Flyers

Sam Carchidi for Philadelphia Inquirer

Left winger Michael Raffl was relieved to sign a three-year contract extension Sunday. Raffl, 27, a versatile player who has also played center this season, could have been an unrestricted free agent on July 1, and his name had been mentioned in trade rumors. “I’ve had easier times walking across the locker room,” Raffl said on Sunday, referring to how he felt after Saturday’s 4-2 win over Arizona. “I didn’t know if it was the last time putting on the Flyers jersey.” But then he reached terms Sunday on a deal that will have an annual cap hit of $2.35 million.

Claude Giroux Nets 500th Career Point

Associated Press for ESPN.com

Claude Giroux was glad to return to the lineup after sitting out three games because of an injury. A win and his 500th career point made the Flyers captain feel even better. Giroux scored one of Philadelphia’s three first-period goals and Mark Streit had three assists to lead the Flyers to a 4-2 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday. “To be back on the ice and battle with your teammates (and) to get a win, there’s nothing better than that,” Giroux said. “It’s a good honor to be able to get that many points. It’s obviously fun, but the win feels a lot better.”

It started encouragingly Thursday as goalie Michal Neuvirth and three unlikely goal-scorers led the Flyers past the Minnesota Wild, 3-2, at the Wells Fargo Center. Neuvirth made a spectacular diving save with 2.6 seconds left to rob Charlie Coyle of the game-tying goal. The play, which was ruled “no goal” on the ice was reviewed, and it was determined that replays showed the puck did not cross the goal line. (It was so close that reporters who watched the replay had different opinions.)

Philadelphia Flyers Still Very Much in Playoff Race

    Dave Issac for Courier Post

It helps to have self-confidence. It also helps to have contributions from everyone in clutch situations and be on the good side of math. A couple of weeks ago the playoffs looked like a pipedream for the Flyers, yet before they began their six-game home stand Jake Voracek predicted the team would need 10 of a possible 12 points to get into playoff relevancy. After two games, the Flyers have lost Voracek to a left foot injury and gotten four points out of four. Their latest effort came in a 4-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes, who have now lost seven straight road games.
