Philadelphia Flyers and The World Cup of Hockey
The Philadelphia Flyers were expecting to see some familiar players on the World Cup of Hockey Roster.
It was a mixed bag for the Philadelphia Flyers. The World Cup of Hockey rosters were revealed for Teams Canada, USA, Russia and Europe and there were a few names that seemed familiar. Flyers defensemen Mark Streit would be on Team Europe and Radko Gudas, Michal Neuvirth and Jakub Vorack were selected for Team Czech Republic. Yet while these might be great, there are a few names that are missing. Flyers captain Claude Giroux was passed over by Team Canada in the initial roster. Rookie sensation Shayne Gostisbehere is also absent from Team USA. With two strong players missing off the rosters, it begs to ask if these players will be added at June 1st or won’t be included at all. Claude Giroux, Shayne Gostisbehere Left Off World Cup Roster
Sam Carchidi for Philadelphia Inquirer
Five Flyers were named Wednesday to teams that will compete in the World Cup of Hockey. But captain Claude Giroux, who has more points than any NHL player over the last five seasons, was not one of them. Giroux, a center who is one of the NHL’s best in the faceoff circle, was bypassed by Team Canada, though he could still be named when seven other players are added on June 1. “I’m not going to worry about it too much,” Giroux said. “. . . It’s something I can’t really control. I can just control how I play.”Live Feed class=inline-text id=inline-text-7

Flyers Have New Lines And It’s Working Out Nicely

At the most important time of the year, it just seems like the Flyers can’t have nice things. First it was Sean Couturier, who missed three weeks with his lower-body injury. Then it was Claude Giroux, who missed three games with his upper-body injury. And now it’s Jake Voracek, who’s stuck in a walking boot and will miss approximately the next two weeks. With all the injury-related lineup turnover, Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol has had to juggle his lines seemingly at every turn.
Philadelphia Flyers Have Roster Depth

Recent weeks have seen the Flyers spend differing amounts of time without their three most important forwards. Center Sean Couturier missed a couple of weeks in February with what appeared to be a foot issue, captain Claude Giroux was out for three games with what was probably a concussion, and top winger Jakub Voracek is now out with what also looks like a foot injury. It’s been unfortunate for the Flyers’ still-existent playoff chances, and even moreso when you consider how remarkably healthy each of those three guys had been in the past few years before this season.
