The Philadelphia Flyers will hit the road to take on the Buffalo Sabres looking for their tenth win of the season.
Coming off a rollercoaster of a game in their 6-5 overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, the Philadelphia Flyers will look to put on a more consistent performance as they play the Buffalo Sabres on the road.
If there’s one thing the Flyers want to mimic from Saturday’s loss, it’s how they looked on the power-play. They went three-for-five on the man advantage in that contest, and it could be the jumpstart the unit needs to get out their funk.
Travis Konecny will be a player to watch in this game for Philadelphia. He scored two goals against the Lightning, which broke him out of a three game scoreless drought. Konecny has created many scoring chances for the team this season, just struggling to find the back of the net. This should help open things up for the 21 year-old forward, but the Sabres won’t be an easy matchup.
The Sabres come into this game ranking sixth in the league in penalty-kill percentage with 82.26% and have allowed the 12th least amount of total Goal-Against with 60. Philadelphia will need their offense to come through and keep pace with Buffalo because they have a good amount of talent on the offensive side of the puck.
Team captain Jack Eichel has been very good to begin the year. He has 24 points (5 Goals, 19 Assists) in 21 games. Offseason addition Jeff Skinner is also performing well for his new team, netting 22 points (14 Goals, 8 Assists) in the same amount of games. The Flyers will need to try and match their performances on-ice, because they have the skillset to completely dominate a game.
This will be a good matchup at even-strength, too, as the Sabres and Flyers are both tied for seventh among NHL teams in even-strength goals for with 51. Philadelphia will count on leaders like Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek to rise to the occasion, especially in Voracek’s case since he has been held scoreless in his last two games.
The Flyers will hope to break a three game losing streak vs Buffalo. Puck-drop is set for 7:30pm EST.
