These three Philadelphia Flyers prospects are looking solid for their respective collegiate teams this season.

With the Philadelphia Flyers struggling this season and currently in the process of finding a new General Manager, it’s time to focus on some positives going on in their farm system. They have plenty of prospects performing well in their junior leagues, but what about the ones who have chosen the collegiate route instead? There are three players who look very solid their respective teams, so let’s take a look at how well they’ve faired thus far.

2018 First Round pick Joel Farabee is having a decent start to the year with Boston University. He has posted six points (3 Goals, 3 Assists) in 11 games. That’s tied fourth on the team and just three points behind fellow forward Bobo Carpenter for second in scoring. Some may think those stats are kind of low for the 13th overall selection, but keep in mind this is his first college season and it will take some time for Farabee to fully get used to the pace of play in the NCAA.

The Flyers have a couple other players who are starting to impress in their sophomore seasons, with one of them being defenseman Wyatt Kalynuk. Kalnyuk was selected in the seventh round of the 2017 NHL draft and is coming into his own for the University of Wisconsin. He is tied for the team lead in scoring with 11 points (5 Goals, 6 Assists) in 14 games. He has also greatly improved his plus/minus from his freshman season, going from -11 to +6 this year.

Kalnyuk is looking to be a diamond in the rough prospect for Philadelphia, as he’s showcased solid two-way skill for Wisconsin. He isn’t the only Flyers late round draft selection performing well in the NCAA, though.

Forward Tanner Laczynski, who was selected in the sixth round of the 2016 draft, is off to another great season for Ohio State. Posting 47 points in his freshman campaign, Laczynski has 12 points (5 Goals, 7 Assists) in 11 games so far. That’s over a point per game pace, and ranks second on the team in points. Laczynski played well for the Flyers during preseason play, too, and obviously has showed no signs of slowing down for the Buckeyes.

Minus Laczynski, it’s likely we won’t see these prospects suit up for the Flyers in the near future. Still, it’s nice to have youthful players to look forward to especially with this 2018-19 season not going as planned for the Orange-and-Black.
