The annual Fandom 250 list has arrived! Philadelphia Flyers fans rank 180th overall and 12th among NHL fanbases.

With the Fandom 250 list being revealed on Wednesday morning, it’s time to talk about where Philadelphia Flyers fans rank on the list and how we can up our position for next year.

Each fandom is measured by a points-based system. Legacy (10 points), Fansmanship (25 points), Passion (25 points), Buzz (25 points), and Magnitude (15 points) are the five key measures used to determine the best fans in all of sports, music, and pop culture.

Flyers fans sit 180th overall and 12th out of 13 in the NHL division on this year’s list with a total score of 61.6. We sit ahead of the New Jersey Devils fandom and are only 1.3 points behind Edmonton Oilers fans for 11th place.

I’ll be a bit honest here, this ranking is spot on for our fan base at the moment. Morale is low with the team being stuck in a state of mediocrity the past couple of years, and attendance in the stands is down with the team struggling so far this season. So, how can we as fans of the Orange-and-Black improve our ranking on the 2019 list?

Obviously, increasing the attendance at games would be a good start, but I’ve personally noticed that the Wells Fargo Center is a little quiet when the Flyers play on home ice. Sure, the place is always rocking when the Pittsburgh Penguins or New York Rangers come to town, but we need to bring that energy more consistently.

We still let the team know when they’re playing poorly, but it’s also up to us as the fanbase to help rally the players on the ice when they’re down in a game. Adding more “Let’s Go Flyers” chants would definitely help and simply making more noise would be beneficial as well.

Beloved mascot Gritty has created a good buzz around the team, and is arguably the best thing about the Flyers this season. His humorous antics not only bring a laugh out of the fans, but to people nationwide. Week after week, Gritty has found a way to upstage himself. He is well on his way to becoming the best mascot the NHL has to offer and will only increase the Flyers popularity with the humor he brings.

Next. Three things to be thankful for as Flyers fans this season. dark

Ranking in the top 200 of all of these fanbases is nothing to be ashamed of. We are a very passionate bunch, wear the Flyers logo with pride everywhere we go, and should be happy to receive some recognition for it.
