The Philadelphia Flyers have to find a way to put an end to losing in embarrassing fashion, as it’s starting to occur more often as of late.

Inconsistency has been one of the main issues with the Philadelphia Flyers so far this season. They can go from dominating one game offensively to looking completely outmatched in the next. Their record is a strong indicator of this, teetering on the .500 line throughout the entire year.

Now, more recently, the Flyers have found themselves on the losing end in three of their last four games. The lone victory was an impressive team performance against a good Buffalo Sabres squad but once again, Philadelphia couldn’t build any confidence off of it. They’ve done the complete opposite, actually.

The Flyers are coming off some horrendous efforts in their last two games. They were absolutely outclassed against the Winnipeg Jets, surrendering over seven goals for the second time this year. Poor goaltending once again came back to haunt the Flyers and their offense didn’t have much of an answer for Connor Hellebuyck in-net. No loss this season has been worse than the one experienced against the Calgary Flames, though.

Up 5-3 with less than two minutes to go in the third period, the Flyers had that game won. The opportunities were there to close it out, with a couple of players failing to clear the puck out of the zone when Calgary pulled their goaltender. There’s no excuse for giving up two goals within a minute of each other, especially so late in the game.

There’s really no way to sugar coat it, that loss was a complete embarrassment. It’s not the first time the Flyers have been humiliated on the ice this year, either. They’re unintentionally inventing new ways to lose and need to find what the issue is as soon as possible.

I don’t care if it’s the coaching staff, the players, or a mix of both, something has to be done. It’s obvious that the hiring of a new General Manager didn’t light a fire under the team by itself, so more has to be done because of it.

The Flyers have too much talent on the roster to continue to let this season go to waste. They are somehow just four points out of third place in the Metropolitan division at the time this article was written, and can still fight their way into a playoff spot. Finding a more consistently motivated effort in each game would be a good start and help put an end to the embarrassing losses.
