The Philadelphia Flyers mascot is up to his old tricks with the 2019 NHL All-Star weekend just getting started.

If you haven’t heard by now, Claude Giroux will be the Philadelphia Flyers representative on the ice at the 2019 NHL All Star game. He had quite the media day on Thursday night, but wasn’t the only Flyer making waves prior to this weekend’s three-on-three matchup.

Gritty participated in a dodgeball game as part of the Mascot Showdown with the 29 other mascots around the NHL, siding with the Eastern Conference for most of the contest. Gritty made a nice play in eliminating Vancouver Canucks mascot FIN after the killer whale caught a ball from an opponent, continuing to show some athletic ability. It wasn’t until he got eliminated where emotions began to ride high.

Blades the Bruin and Gritty were the final two representatives left on the Eastern Conference team and both got bounced from the game as the Western squad earned the victory. The big, orange legend-in-the-making didn’t take the loss very kindly, eventually beating on a referee before kicking a ball and walking off the mini-rink. Gritty showed some obvious pent-up aggression, not holding back from wailing on a long-time Philadelphia sports rival.

He also made a couple of new friends beforehand, taking photos with Toronto Maple Leafs mascot Carlton and S.J. Sharkie. All-and-all, Gritty seemed to really enjoy his first day at an All-Star experience and I personally can’t wait to see more antics throughout the weekend.

This definitely won’t be the last time you’ll hear Gritty’s name if you plan on watching more All Star festivities. The Skills Competition, which Giroux will likely compete in, is January 25th at 9pm EST and the actual game itself is the next day on the 26th an hour earlier. Hopefully, the Flyers captain can help lead the Eastern team to victory.
