The Philadelphia Flyers will host the Pittsburgh Penguins at Lincoln Financial Field on February 23rd.

After a couple of pictures of the jerseys made their way around Twitter, the Philadelphia Flyers finally announced and confirmed their new threads for the 2019 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series.

The Flyers will hope to avenge the 2017 loss in Pittsburgh, where they fell to their hated Metropolitan Division rivals 4-2. Even though this season hasn’t gone as planned, I can always get excited for a Flyers/Penguins matchup, especially when it’s located at Lincoln Financial Field (go birds).

The game will, obviously, be nationally televised and Philadelphia will need to bring their best efforts to come out on top. Losing to the Penguins is never fun, but it’s especially embarrassing when it’s seen by eyes all across the country.

The uniforms themselves are all orange with black accents and an all black Flyers logo. At first glance, there’s something a little off with the shade of orange used on the jersey. It seems a little darker than Philadelphia’s usual color and I’m a fan of Adidas at least trying something different rather than doing a throwback. Don’t get me wrong, I like a lot of the Flyers throwbacks, but I also like to see actual new jerseys and this is definitely that their case.

I say in Philadelphia’s case because these are almost exact replicas of Pittsburgh’s jersey from the Stadium Series two years, just more Flyerafied. Outside of having a little more orange on the sleeves than Pittsburgh did yellow, the similarities are uncanny. As for my honest opinion of the newest Flyers apparel, I’ve gotta say…they’re starting to grow on me a bit.

I thought they were horrible when first leaked, but the longer I look at them, the more I come around to liking them. I’ve seen worse jerseys around the world of sports and wouldn’t be opposed to purchasing one at some point.

The Flyers will hope to get their second victory over Pittsburgh later this month. Puck drop is expected to be set at 8pm Eastern Standard Time.
