Weekly Buzz: Another Week, Another Winning Streak for the Flyers

This week’s serving of Broad Street Buzz content you might have missed.

The Philadelphia Flyers started the week with General Manager Chuck Fletcher cutting some of the deadweight off of the roster since his arrival back in December.

Nolan Patrick was highlighted as a player to watch for the Flyers in a big matchup with the Pittsburgh Penguins at home.

Patrick and the Flyers offense had a hard time dealing with Matt Murray between the pipes, losing to the Penguins 4-1 thanks to his 50 save performance.

Philadelphia’s playoff hopes looked bleak after the loss to Pittsburgh, sitting eight points out of the second Wild Card spot instead of two had they won.

In order to avoid a two game losing streak, the Flyers needed more production out of Wayne Simmonds in their game against the Minnesota Wild.

While Simmonds had an assist, James van Riemsdyk was the one to step up in the Flyers 5-4 victory over the Wild. Here are three takeaways from the valiant effort.

With Brian Elliott returning from injury soon, the Flyers are set to have some type of a logjam in their goaltending crease. Here’s how they can fix the issue.

Rumors were swirling around the Flyers potentially acquiring Cam Talbot and we took a look into whether or not it’d be a smart move for the team.

Those weren’t the only rumors surrounding Philadelphia, though, with Simmonds trade value potentially slipping as the Trade Deadline draws closer.

Fletcher eventually made a move, officially acquiring Talbot from the Edmonton Oilers for Anthony Stolarz in a one-for-one trade.

Special Teams play was key for the Flyers in their home-and-home series battle with the Detroit Red Wings.

Travis Konecny scored the game winning overtime goal, putting on a dazzling performance in the Flyers 6-5 win vs Detroit.

Anthony Mantha put a dirty hit on Claude Giroux in Saturday’s contest and had to pay for it in the second half of a back-to-back.

Simmonds dropped the gloves with him to avenge the Flyers Captain and Philadelphia ended up winning 3-1 due to a clutch performance from Carter Hart.

With the Trade Deadline just around the corner, here are a couple of potential suitors and returns for Simmonds.

The Flyers now have a 28-24-7 record on the year and are riding a three game winning streak. Next game is Tuesday against a vaunted Tampa Bay Lightning squad.
