The Philadelphia Flyers hosted the New York Rangers hoping to earn their 38th victory of the season.

Looking to bounce back from a loss in their last contest, the Philadelphia Flyers played host to the New York Rangers in their final meeting of the year.

Carter Hart got the start in-net and opposed Alexander Georgiev. Georgiev has cooled down a bit since he last faced the Flyers, posting a 3.05 Goals-Against Average and a .909 save percentage. Philadelphia needed to take advantage of a struggling Rangers squad and finish the 2018-19 campaign strong.

Hart was tested with plenty of chances as the game began, absolutely robbing the Rangers with two big saves to keep things even. The Flyers lack of effort on the defensive end came back to bite them, as Pavel Buchnevich scored the game’s first goal and gave his team a 1-0 lead. Philadelphia failed to back-check effectively in their own zone, gifting Buchnevich with a Hart rebound from the slot. Ryan Strome, the brother of Flyers forward prospect Matthew, added to the lead with just 2.6 second to go in the first and suddenly put Philly in a 2-0 hole after one period of play.

The Flyers received not one, but two power-play opportunities in the early minutes of the second and, you guessed it, couldn’t convert on either of them. They created a couple chances, but took way too many shots from the perimeter that Georgiev saved with relative ease. Both teams participated in back-and-forth hockey throughout the period, with the score still 2-0 through two. James van Riemsdyk had a great breakaway opportunity towards the end of the frame, failing to beat the 6’1 Georgiev.

Brady Skjei put the Rangers ahead 3-0 with a shot from the point that pin-balled off of two Flyers players and into the back of the net. Hart had no chance to make the save, once again receiving little help from his defense. The Rangers went on to shutout Philadelphia by the same score of 3-0, which was the seventh time they’ve been shutout this season.

There’s nota whole lot I can say about the Flyers performance in this game. They clearly didn’t bring the energy to start and defensively…just lol. I can’t ignore the play of Georgiev in this matchup, either, with an honestly impressive 29 save showing.
