Which of the eight Philadelphia Flyers players were able to help their respective countries advance passed the World Championship quarterfinals?

The quarterfinals of the 2019 IIHF World Championships got underway on Thursday, and if you read our previous article or the blurb directly above, you know that the Philadelphia Flyers had eight players vying to get their home country a gold, silver, or bronze medal. With that being said, how did each Flyers player and their team fair during elimination action?

Beginning with the good news, Team Canada was able to sneak passed Team Switzerland with a 3-2 win in overtime. They tied the game with not even a second left on the clock in the third period, and Vegas Golden Knights forward Mark Stone eventually potted the game-winner. Sean Couturier and Philippe Myers were held pointless, but Coots was one of the three players on the ice to start the overtime, showing that Alain Vigneault trusts in his ability to shut down the opposition. Carter Hart did not play, as Pittsburgh Penguins net-minder Matt Murray received the starting nod.

Jakub Voracek and Radko Gudas also advanced through the quarterfinals with a dominant 5-1 victory over Team Germany. Jake the Snake netted a goal in the winning effort, pushing his point total up to 16 in the tournament which now ties for second at the Worlds behind Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander. Gudas, on the other hand, was held without a point.

Now, to the bad news. James van Riemsdyk and Team USA couldn’t find a way to defeat Team Russia as they fell to them by a score of 4-3. The Americans made things interesting towards the end of the third thanks to a goal from Chicago Blackhawks forward Alex DeBrincat but were unable to capture the equalizer. JvR had zero points in the contest. Team Sweden also found themselves eliminated during quarterfinal play, losing to Team Finland 5-4 in OT. Oskar Lindblom played just one shift in the loss and obviously went without a point while Robert Hagg went pointless as well.
