Philadelphia Flyers: Samuel Ersson Has A Sweet New Mask
The Philadelphia Flyers goaltending prospect will play in the Swedish Hockey League for the 2019-20 season.
A new season of hockey can mean a lot of things. Teams all over the world have the opportunity to turn the tides from last year or keep building on a successful campaign. They also get to see how new additions to their club will fair wearing different jersey colors, and for most goaltenders, it means getting a newly designed mask. Philadelphia Flyers prospect Samuel Ersson has already gotten a jump start on that regard with the beginning of the SHL regular season about a month away.
The 19-year-old goalie listed the help of known professional mask artist David Gunnarsson to make his new headgear and the two thought of quite the design. The bucket, which is named “Wet Paint Tiger Edition”, is obviously tiger themed, with the face of the animal on top of the mask. Almost all of its’ stripes drip down the helmet in a wet-paint manner, and the colors are predominantly orange and black. You can view the mask in its’ entirety on Dave’s Instagram account right here.
Ersson will be playing his first full season in the SHL with Brynäs IF in 2019-20. He previously suited up for the team during the 2017-18 campaign, where he slashed a 3.00 Goals Against Average with a .882 save percentage in one game playing for the professional squad. The Flyers 2018 Fifth-Round more recently won the Most Valuable Player award in the Allsvenskan league this past year, posting a .933 SVS% and a .195 GAA in 36 contests with Västerås IK. He’ll now have the chance to show his worth on a professional level in a starting capacity following a successful junior career.
Ersson is undoubtedly an overseas prospect to keep an eye on this upcoming year, as he and Felix Sandstrom lead the way in the Flyers goaltending pipeline.
