The young Philadelphia Flyers forward will start the season in Lehigh Valley, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.
Well, it’s official, guys. After Alain Vigneault said the move could happen, the Philadelphia Flyers sent centerman Morgan Frost down to the AHL and will report to the Lehigh Valey Phantoms. While it is a little disappointing, Frost is still dealing with a groin injury and needs to further his rehab in order to recover fully. He wasn’t going to be able to do that in Switzerland or Prague, so this transaction had to be made so he can get back to one-hundred percent.
There was a spot available for Frost to take at the third-line center position with Nolan Patrick being week-to-week with a migraine disorder, and while it would’ve been great to see the former Sault Ste. Marie Greyhound take that role for the time being; it certainly isn’t the end of the world. Frost will find himself back in a Flyers uniform eventually, whether it’s this season or the next, especially considering how good he looked in his brief, two-game stint in the preseason.
Not every single prospect is going to make the team out of camp, and don’t forget that, we still have Connor Bunnaman, Carsen Twarynski, and Joel Farabee to look forward to, as well, so as long as another roster move isn’t on the way before everyone takes off for Europe. Even if they all don’t stick, I’m willing to bet at least one of three will stay with the club for a majority of the year.
Some time in the AHL surely won’t hurt Frost, either. Making the jump from a junior hockey league all of the way to the NHL isn’t an easy task to accomplish. Adding the 20-year-old to the Phantoms roster should only aid in his development and help him perform better as an overall player when we see him with the Flyers logo on his jersey again.
It’s possible that Frost would’ve filled in for Patrick had he not suffered the groin strain, but sadly, injuries are part of the game. Let’s not play hypotheticals, though. What is known is that Frost will soon be Phantom and should absolutely kill it in the Valley alongside all of their talent.
