The Philadelphia Flyers Captain will be a crucial piece for the team to get back into the postseason.

Let’s face it, the Philadelphia Flyers have always had one face on its roster that has made the team a playoff hopeful. He has been representing the Flyers organization as an All-star in many games over the past few years (2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019) and has had playoff success with the team on many occasions. Of course, we are talking about the Right Wing, #28, Claude Giroux. He has earned every opportunity as a captain, and many people are waiting to see him and the “Broad Street Bullies” bring the Stanley Cup back to Philadelphia. If the Flyers want playoff success, they’re going to need their Captain.

In his career in the NHL, Giroux has played in 821 games, 236 goals, 526 assists, and 762 points in his career from 2007-2020, stats provided by NHL.com. Giroux is a scoring machine and isn’t afraid to pass the puck around to multiple teammates. As I previously mentioned, he’s a multi-time All-Star and helped get the franchise to the Stanley Cup Finals against the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010.

Even though the Flyers lost in a 4-2 series, Giroux was still able to put up 10 goals in that playoff run along with 11 assists, one of, if not, the best playoff performances of his career so far. With that in mind, he has the most playoff experience on the team and could give them that big push they need to make it deep into the postseason. Giroux and the Flyers can make it to the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs, but only if they do these essential things to help them make such a big push.

  •  Giroux, Sean Couturier, Jakub Voracek, and Carter Hart remain healthy through the season
  •  Flyers must play Giroux in all 82 games and have him score around a point-per-game.
  •  Flyers penalty killing group improves from last season as a whole.
  • Flyers must win 45+ games to make it to the playoffs.

If Giroux does what he’s been doing with the Flyers for the last 12 seasons, he and his team have a solid chance to raise the Cup this year. As long as injuries or other accidents should happen, then the Orange and Black could be the ones raising the Stanley Cup in 2020, with most of the credit going to the soon to be 32-year-old.
