Everything you need to know for the Philadelphia Flyers matchup with the Washington Capitals this evening.

Coming off of an impressive shootout victory over the Boston Bruins on Sunday, the Philadelphia Flyers will return to their home ice to take on a Metropolitan Division rival in the Washington Capitals for the first time this year. The Caps took the season-series from the Orange and Black in 2018-19, sweeping the Flyers four games to none. Philly will hope to get their first victory over Washington since March of 2018, where they beat the current Eastern Conference leader 6-3.

The Capitals certainly won’t make it easy, though. They enter this in-division matchup leading all NHL clubs in even-strength and total Goals For by a wide margin, racking up 57 and 76 goals in each category. The next team behind them has 49 and 65 tallies, respectively, showing just how dominant Washington’s been on the offensive end of the ice. Philadelphia will need to, once again, bring their best efforts in the defensive and try to limit the number of chances the Caps create, which will be easier said than done.

The Flyers could also use another strong game out of Carter Hart, who will get the start from Alain Vigneault in this one. Hart has been nothing short of stellar between the pipes for the Fly Guys recently, allowing no more than two goals in his last three starts. He was the sole reason the game with Boston went to overtime and a shootout, too, making a plethora of critical saves in the third to keep the game tied. It’s a lot to ask of your goaltender to keep standing tall like Hart has, especially at his young age, but I have faith that the former Everett Silvertip’s talent will shine through yet again and give the Flyers a shot at a fifth straight victory.

Flyers Betting Odds and Lines

Courtesy of The Action Network, the Flyers are a +100 while the Capitals are a -120 on the MoneyLine. This is likely due to how well Washington has played as of late, winning six of their last seven games.
