Everything you need to know ahead of the Philadelphia Flyers matchup with the Winnipeg Jets this evening.

Following a 4-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night, the Philadelphia Flyers will look to split this round of weekend back-to-back as they take on the Winnipeg Jets for the first time of 2019-20. Both sides walked away with a win through their two-game season series last year, as Winnipeg took to first meeting with a 7-1 blowout win while the Flyers came back with a 3-1 victory of their own in January of 2019. Brian Elliott is expected to get the start and will aim for his fourth win in his last five games if that holds true.

The Jets haven’t been as good offensively as they’ve been in years past, tying for 21st in the NHL in total Goals For coming into this game. However, Winnipeg’s been on a roll in that department as of late, scoring ten tallies in their last three games and have been spearheaded by a red-hot Mark Scheifele. The 26-year-old centerman who was taken one pick ahead of Sean Couturier during the 2011 NHL Entry Draft enters this inter-conference affair riding a five-game point streak and is scoring at a point-per-game rate so far this season. Winnipeg has lived and died with his production this year, posting a 3-6-1 record when Scheifele goes without a point. The Flyers will have to try their best to shut down the dynamic two-way center for that reason if they want to snap a two-game losing skid at the end of the night.

Other players Philly will have to focus on include obvious candidates such as Patrik Laine, Kyle Connor, Nikolaj Ehlers, and Blake Wheeler, who round out the Jets Top 5 scorers on the campaign. While the team as a whole has underperformed in the opposing zone like I previously mentioned, Winnipeg still has the offensive talents to give the Flyers fits and can’t be overlooked.

Flyers Betting Odds

Courtesy of the Action Network, the Flyers are a +121 while the Jets are the favorites at a -136. This is likely due to how banged up Philadelphia is heading into this game and how good Winnipeg’s been as of late, winning two of their last three contests.
