The Philadelphia Flyers mascot showed some Brotherly Love at the team’s home game on Tuesday.
In his still brief time as the official mascot and national icon of the Philadelphia Flyers, Gritty has used his charming personality to befriend other figures around the Philly sports scene. He’s hung out with the likes of the Philadelphia Union’s Phang, Lehigh Valley Phantoms’ MeLVin, and most notably the Philadelphia Phillies mascot the Phillie Phanatic, who Gritty has recently voiced his opinion on the baseball club character’s new look.
For those who are unaware, the Phanatic underwent a slight transformation prior to the Phillies Spring Training getting fully underway. The beloved creature added blue-colored eyebrows and a tail, with what looks to be scales running up his arms. This led to a split amongst the Phillies and Philadelphia sports fanbase as a whole, with some saying the change in appearance was hardly noticeable while others just weren’t a fan.
Gritty weighed in on the debate during the Flyers 4-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Center, boasting two signs that read “I Stand With The Phillie Phanatic” and “If you don’t come see me…” He also wore a visor over his eyes that resembled the Phanatic’s now brows, going all out in full support of his Philadelphia brethren. It’s always great to see Gritty interact with other names in sports, whether it’s Philly related or not. The NHL’s best mascot seems to mesh with anybody he meets, using his tremendous person-er-mascotality (I’ll leave) to make for entertaining moments time and time again.
Gritty’s a good friend in supporting his friend’s new look, adding to his already deep list of strengths. It’s unknown what the Phanatic thinks of Gritty’s support, but we here at Broad Street Buzz will let you know that breaking news as soon as it happens!
