Two Flyers prospects earned big honors in the Big-Ten on Monday. Wyatt Kalynuk and Cam York were each named top players in separate categories.

In Flyers prospect news, the team had two of their collegiate players earn honors in the Big-Ten. Wyatt Kalynuk was named to the All-Big Ten First Team while Cam York was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team.

Kalynuk was one of two Wisconsin players to be named to the team. Teammate Cole Caufield was named as well. York also had a teammate named to the All-Freshman team. That was John Beecher.

A seventh round pick for the Flyers in 2017, Kalynuk has grown as a defensemen during his three years at Wisconsin. Not only does he run the power play unit, he is the team’s go to guy on the back end.

In the conference, Kalynuk led at B1G defenseman in scoring with six goals. His 28 points overall were second among defensemen in all games.

He was also named to the Academic All-Big Ten team as well as receiving a Big-Ten Sportsmanship Award. In his third season, there is thought that he might not be back for a fourth.

His rights won’t expire with the Flyers until next summer, so there is time for him to decide. If he goes back for his senior season, the team would support that. They also wouldn’t mind adding his to a Phantoms team that could use the help.

York was a first round draft pick of the Flyers in 2019. In his first season with Michigan, he racked in quite a few awards. Not only was he named to the All-Freshman Team, he was an honorable mention for the All-Big Ten Team. York was also a finalist for Freshman of the Year.

York was tied for the lead in points among Michigan defensemen. Along with Nick Blakenburg, York had 16 points. That was formed by his five goals and 11 assists.

He was hassled by a few injuries throughout the season. His role should grow even more next season in what could be his last year with Michigan. At least the Flyers don’t expect him to be a four-year guy.
