Needing to stock up on more goaltenders, Felix Sandstrom was the choice in the third round. He was looked at as the top goaltending prospect available. However, injury and illness led him to miss most of the season with Brynas IF J20. He appeared in just 14 games that season.

The lack of playing time made it hard to project the kind of goaltender he was going to become. But the Flyers decided he was worth the third-round pick. Back full time the next season, Sandstrom was playing full time in the SHL for Brynas IF. He split time in net, appearing in 25 games. He posted a 2.61 GAA and a .903 SV%. Splitting time once more the following season, the numbers improved.

Sandstrom grabbed a 2.25 GAA and a .908 SV% in 22 games played. He spent the 2017-18 season between a few different teams. He was sent on loan to IK Oskarshamn of the Allsvenskan league. He also played for HV71 in the SHL. Sandstrom would make his professional debut for the Phantoms at the end of the 2018-19 season.

He debuted officially this past season, spending his year in the ECHL. He struggled throughout the year, finishing with a 3.27 GAA and a .885 SV%. Sandstrom did grab a shutout in his only AHL appearance this season.

Once thought of as a top goaltending prospect, he’s likely slipped off of the top of that list after this past season. He is likely to get AHL time with Kirill Ustimenko if the Flyers decide to not bring back Alex Lyon.
