Two ACL tears haven’t gotten rid of Samuel Morin’s drive to return to the Flyers and the sport he loves.
Six months ago is when Samuel Morin tore his ACL for the second time in his career. It happened on November 6th during a conditioning stint for the Phantoms. Morin was set to fight for a spot on the Flyers roster this season.
That all changed that night in November. He has been rehabbing ever since. There has been no setback during Morin’s rehab process. He has been able to skate and train due to the injury. Players rehabbing injuries have been allowed to have access to training facilities during this time.
The current injury isn’t the only thing that has caused him to miss time. A core muscle injury and his first ACL tear are other reasons he has missed most of the last two and a half seasons.
Morin spoke at length recently with Bill Meltzer, a site contributor for the Flyers. He spoke about how he is still determined to play. And how he briefly wondered if he would be able to rehab again.
"“I still have the passion for hockey. I want to play in the NHL. I want to play for the Flyers. They drafted me [in the first round of the 2013 Draft]. I have played a few games, but I want to give myself a chance to play more.“"
Drafted in the first round in 2013, Morin has played a total of nine games with the Flyers. He made his NHL debut at the end of the 2016-17 season, appearing in one game. He would play in one game the following season, five last season and just one this past year.
With this time to heal and recover, Morin should be able to come into camp next season ready to go. The Flyers signed him to a three-year contract back in 2018. So he will have next season to prove himself to the team.
It will no doubt take him some time to get back to where he was before the injury. But if we’ve learned anything from Morin, it’s that he has the determination and passion to make it back on the ice.
