With the signing deadline looming, the Flyers were able to agree to terms with defensemen Linus Hogberg.

The Flyers had until Monday to sign Linus Hogberg or they would lose his rights. With a little under two days to go, they agreed to terms with the defensemen. He was signed to a two-year, entry-level contract this afternoon.

Drafted in the fifth round in 2016, Hogberg made his SHL debut at a 17-year old. Playing for Vaxjo Lakers, it took a few seasons for Hogberg to find his footing points wise. He was a semi-regular player in the lineup, but was holding his own.

He began to earn more playing time, starting with last season. As a young player in the league, Hogberg has shown he is able to keep up with older players and opponents.

This last season was by far his best in the SHL. He posted five goals and 14 points in 50 games. The signs were there the previous season as he had collected 10 points in 52 games.

He has appeared internationally for Sweden as well. In 30 games, he has posted three goals and six points overall.

Back in January, Flyers assistant GM Brent Flahr spoke on the possibility of signing Hogberg.

"“He has good self-awareness as a player. He knows what works for him, and his game doesn’t change much from night to night. He skates well, moves the puck and keeps things fairly simple out there.”"

The biggest thing the Flyers wanted him to work on was his strength. He comes in at 6’1” and 176 lbs according to Elite Prospects. For a player that doesn’t necessarily stand out in any facet, putting on more muscle will be key as he transitions to North America.

He has improved gradually over time, though. That has led to the entry-level contract with the Flyers.

He will make his professional debut with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms next season. Hogberg will be added to a young Phantoms defense. Wyatte Wylie and Egor Zamula are also expected to join the team next season.
