The June 1st deadline is looming as the Flyers could lose the rights to Linus Hogberg and David Bernhardt.

While the season itself has been paused since March, there are some deadlines the NHL is still holding on to. That includes the deadline for the Flyers to see a few of their prospects before they lost their rights.

Linus Hogberg and David Bernhardt are the two prospects the Flyers are in danger of losing the rights to. The deadline to sign the two is June 1st. So they have two days to sign them if they choose to do so.

The situation isn’t as simple as just signing the two. If that was the case, they likely would have signed at least one of them by now. The Phantoms currently have fix defensemen under contract. That number is six if a player like Mark Friedman doesn’t make the Flyers out of camp.

That number could also be six depending on what Wyatt Kalynuk decides to do. The rumor is that he has decided to turn pro going into next year. But will that be with the Flyers?

Due to his age, there is a clause in the CBA that would allow him to wait 30 days and then sign with whatever team he wants. So that’s another situation the Flyers may have to monitor as well.

But going back to the two mentioned above, Hogberg likely has the better chance to get signed. He had a solid season for Vaxjo of the SHL. He posted five goals and 14 points in 50 games. That was up from the two goals and 10 points the prior season.

Bernhardt, on the other hand, hasn’t shown much since playing in the SHL. He posted no points in nine games for Vaxjo. He moved on to SaiPa in Liiga, collecting a modest seven points in 33 games.

The potential logjam on defense could prevent the two from getting signed to the Flyers organization. The defensive depth in the organization has been improving over the last few seasons.

It wouldn’t be the first time in recent years the team has let prospects go. We’ll find out in the coming days what the Flyers decide to do.
