The Flyers will have to wait at least one more year as Cam York will be back at Michigan for another season.

After an impressive freshman season, Cam York will be spending at least one more season in Michigan. The Flyers 2019 first-round pick is not expected to stay at the college level all four years.

In fact, he is expected to turn pro after his sophomore season. This isn’t a surprise, York was not thought of as a one-and-done player. Even though his dream is to turn pro as soon as possible.

He’ll be back on Michigan ice in the coming days to begin small workouts.

York caught the Flyers eyes during his time with the United States national team development program. He set a single season record, posting 65 points in 61 games. He was fifth on the squad in points, third in assists. Both totals were tops among defensemen.

York was just under a point-per-game player during his two seasons with the USDP. He posted 0.84 PPG in 122 career games.

John Wroblewski, York’s coach with the USNTP, had nothing but glowing things to say about the young defensemen.

"“I think he’s going to be rock-solid offensively in the NHL, but his prowess will be how reliable he is defensively. Working around him and watching his video on a daily basis, he never got beat.”"

He also shined with the USA squad at the World Junior Championships. For the U18 squad, York grabbed four goals and 11 points in seven games. That was the most post by a defensemen and was fourth overall on the team.

That was enough for the Flyers to take him with the 14th pick in the 2019 Draft. He hit the ground running at Michigan despite dealing with a few injuries.

York led defensemen in goals (5), assists (11), and points (16). He was fifth overall on the team in points. That earned him a spot on the All-Freshman Team. He was also a finalist for Freshman of the Year.

York is likely to have an even bigger role on the Michigan squad next season. And a healthy year could make that dream of turning professional with the Flyers come sooner rather than later.
