Philadelphia Flyers: Team takes home three NHL Fan Awards

With the NHL Fan Awards voting complete, the Flyers came away winners in three out of four categories.

During their annual NHL Fan Choice Awards, the Philadelphia Flyers were up for various awards. The categories were Funniest Player, Best Beard, Best Mascot, and Best Home Arena.

The nominees were Kevin Hayes, Jakub Voracek, Gritty, and the Wells Fargo Center. In the end, the Flyers took home three of those awards listed above.

Up against Ryan Reaves, Tomas Hertl, and Keith Yandle, Hayes came away with the close win in the Funniest Player category.

With 31.8% of the vote, Hayes was able to edge out Reaves who captured 26.2%. Hertl finished at 24.9%. And lastly, Yandle finished with 17.1%.

Next up, Voracek was able to take the win in the Best Beard category. He took the award over David Savard, Jordie Benn, and Ian Cole.

It was a runaway victory for Voracek as captured a massive 56.1% of all votes. The next closest to him was Benn with 19.4%. Savard finished with 12.7%. And Cole rounded out the group, obtaining 11.8% of votes.

The Flyers as a whole took away a big win when it came to their home arena. Fans voted the Wells Fargo Center as the league’s best building. The team has an incredible 25-6-4 record when playing at home.

Every arena was nominated so voting was close all around. The Wells Fargo Center captured 13.4% of the votes to take the victory. The Golden Knights finished in second (9.5%) while the Capitals came in third place (8.9%).

Every team in the league earned at least a vote here or there. The Sabres, Devils, Coyotes, Panthers, and Senators all finished below 1%.

And while he didn’t come away with the win, Gritty did finish second among all mascots. Chance, the mascot for the Golden Knights, took the victory in that category.

It was a two mascot race between Chance and Gritty as they were the only two to finish with a double-digit percentages. Chance edged out the win, finishing with 32.7% of votes. Gritty came in with 28.2%. The next closest was Slapshot, the Capitals mascot, who earned just 4.2% of votes.
