Suffering a fractured knee cap in March, Phil Myers is recovered and ready to play when the Flyers resume.
If the season hasn’t been paused on March 12th, Philippe Myers would’ve missed a month of play. He suffered a fractured right knee cap after blocking a Jack Eichel shot on March 7th. The Flyers defensemen wouldn’t have returned until the playoffs.
He is now healthy and ready to return. Turns out the entire NHL is waiting to return as well. Training camp is expected to begin around July 10th with playoffs starting near the end of the month. Teams have been able to take part in small group skates as we speak.
Myers made the drive from his hometown and has been taking part in those skates since this past Monday. He had been working out and rehabbing at home. But he was finally able to get back on the ice.
"“I’ve been rehabbing while I was at home. I’ve been working hard and working out. I’ve just got to get back to skating now, because I hadn’t skated much at home. I never needed surgery or anything, so it was a smooth recovery.”"
Myers took a leap forward this season. He’s earned a regular spot in the lineup and has become a part of a dominant second pairing with Travis Sanheim. The two are right behind Ivan Provorov and Matt Niskanen in almost every on-ice metric. They do have just under 400 fewer minutes together, though.
Myers overall has four goals and 16 points. His on-ice metrics have improved as well. He’s up to a 51.43 CF% and a 50.87 FF%. Myers has a 60.53% GF% and an xG% of 50.34. So the extra ice time has allowed him to grow as a defenseman and player.
The postseason experience will be good for Myers as he’ll have a big role for the Flyers. While they won’t be leaning on him fully, he will have a chance to show what he is capable of on the bigger stage.
