We will be getting an early rivalry game as the Flyers are set to take on the Penguins during exhibition play.

After teams make it into their hub cities for the playoffs, there are expected to play one exhibition game before the games count. The games will be played between July 28th-30th. And it looks like a familiar rival will be the Flyers opponent.

The Flyers will be taking on the Pittsburgh Penguins for their one and only exhibition game. Teams appear to be split up by regions.

The Penguins are a very familiar opponent to the Flyers and are actually a team they could face in the opening round of the playoffs. That is if Pittsburgh is not upset by the Montreal Canadiens.

The two teams are scheduled to face off on July 28th at 4:00 p.m. They will be the opening game as the exhibition games will take over the two day span mentioned above.

While an exhibition game may not have the same intensity as a regular season or playoff matchup, it would be a good team for the Flyers to face. Even without it being an important game, there is almost certain to be some kind of intensity with it.

Games between the Flyers and Penguins almost always have some kind of drama involved in them. Whether it is a blowout like the 7-1 loss at the beginning of the season. Or the 3-0 shutout Brian Elliott lead the team to in their second matchup.

There’s even a chance it could be as dramatic as the series finale that took over 60 minutes to determine. No matter what happens, this will almost certainly set the tone heading into the playoffs.

The Flyers spot is secured in the first round, all that matters for them is seeding. But they are no doubt looking past the exhibition and round robin play. They’re looking to make some noise in the postseason.

The Penguins will have to fight through a five-game play-in series just to have a chance to participate in the actual playoffs.
