Goalie Michal Neuvirth played for the Philadelphia Flyers from 2015-19 in a career that was ended prematurely due to injuries. Where is the former Flyer at now?

Signing with the Flyers on July 1st in 2015, Michal Neuvirth‘s primary role with the team was to serve as the backup goaltender to goalie Steve Mason. In his first year with the team, Neuvirth appeared in 32 games and started in 29 of those games.

Things were looking good for the then-27 year goalie, finishing his debut season with a .924 save percentage and an 18-8 record.

Before signing with the Flyers, he played in the NHL for nine years primarily with the Washington Capitals, Buffalo Sabres, and the New York Islanders.

His stint with the team included a terrifying moment when Neuvirth collapsed in the net during a game against the New Jersey Devils on April 1st, 2017.

He would go on to leave the game and the team later confirmed that he was suffering from severe dehydration and was released from the hospital.

He appeared in the playoffs in two seasons with the Flyers, the 2015-16 season, and the 2017-18 season.

He would go on to play for four seasons before the team had decided not to renew his contract after an injury-plagued 2018-19 season, effectively making him a free agent.

Unable to get a contract that would put him on an NHL roster, he agreed to an invitation to attend the Toronto Maple Leafs’ training camp on a professional tryout contract in July 2019. Things didn’t go well for him there, and the Leafs released him from his contract prior to the 2019-20 season.

Neuvirth would go on to sit out the majority of the 2019-20 NHL season. In January 2020, he agreed to a deal that would see him play in his home country Czech Republic.

He currently serves as a goaltender for the HC Sparta Praha hockey club, which plays under the Czech Extraliga hockey league. Founded in 1901, HC Sparta Praha is recognized as one of the oldest hockey clubs in the world that is still operational.

His last NHL game was on January 3rd, 2019 and it is likely Neuvirth’s eleven-year career in the NHL has come to a close.
