The Flyers fourth round pick in 2018 has decided to head to a new college program after the Ivy League season was cancelled.

According to a recent report from Jeff Cox of the New England Hockey Journal, it appears Jack St. Ivany will be entering the college hockey transfer pool. The Flyers prospect is reportedly heading to Boston College.

St. Ivany, a 2018 fourth-round pick, was a top defenseman for Yale. He spent two seasons with Bulldogs, posting seven goals and 23 assists overall. He posted just one goal this past season, but led all Bulldogs defensemen in points. This was after posting  six goals, third on the team, a season ago.

He also appeared in seven games for USA at the World Juniors. He grabbed a silver medal during the tournament, though he ended up with no points

St. Ivany will not be eligible to play for Boston until after the first semester’s worth of games are over. That would start his next college season in January. For now, the Flyers prospect appears to be heading back to juniors for the time being.

He spent two seasons in the USHL with the Sioux Falls Stampede. He took a step forward during his draft year, collecting 36 points. That was tied for third on the Stampede. His six goals were second among defensemen.

He earned a spot on the USHL Third All-Star team after that season. That was after posting just one goal and nine assists during his first season in juniors.

This decision comes about a week after the Ivy League decided to cancel all winter sports. The Bulldogs had not yet began their season.

So for now, St. Ivany will head back to juniors until he is eligible to join Boston once the second semester begins. After having their first two games postponed, they are scheduled to open their season against UMass on November 27th and 28th.

St. Ivany would be joining a Boston team that already has eight defensemen on its roster. So playing time may be hard to come by. While this couldn’t have been an easy decision to make, St. Ivany must know he’ll have a chance.

Boston finished first in the Hockey East a year ago with a 17-6-1 conference record. They grabbed a 24-8-2 record overall. They were essentially a lock for the NCAA tournament after failing to qualify the past three seasons.

This now gives the Flyers until mid August of 2022 to sign St. Ivany.
