The Philadelphia Flyers announced on Tuesday that they have signed defenseman Phil Myers to an extension.

Phil Myers is staying in town, as widely expected. The Flyers have signed him to a 3-year contract extension reportedly worth $2.55M a year. There were several reports earlier this week that had suggested the team and Myers were close to securing a deal, but nothing was finalized until today.

The team made it official Tuesday evening after several reports had come out earlier in the day saying the team and Myers did indeed finally make ends meet, and it’s safe to say that it made fans happy with many quick to take to Twitter to express their views on the deal.

Last season, Myers had appeared in fifty games. In those fifty games played, he racked up 44 blocks and 80 hits according to Hockey Reference. This signing is incredibly beneficial to the team and key to keeping the defense line in order. The 23-year-old has shown lots of promise after making his debut just two seasons ago in 2018.

Myers was credited with 12 assists and 4 goals last season. Myers was often in the top-line paired with Ivan Provorov and it’s no doubt that both Provorov and Myers playing on the same top line have done damage to opposing teams.

Although fans may not be able to attend games in the upcoming season that are reportedly scheduled to start mid-January, it’ll still be interesting to watch him in your living room.
