The Flyers will have three representatives at the upcoming World Junior Championships.
Showcasing some of the top young talent around the leagues, the World Junior Championship rosters have been finalized for each country. And the Flyers will have three of their prospects representing their countries.
The tournament features teams from 10 different countries around the world. The tournament will open up on December 25th and run through January 5th. Teams will also have preliminary games to prepare as well.
For the United States, Cam York and Bobby Brink will be in the lineup once again. The two were participants on the 2020 roster, albeit in smaller roles. Both appeared in all five games the USA played, but only Brink managed to register a point. As veterans on the squad this year, they figure to have bigger roles.
York is in his second season at Michigan where in eight games he has two goals and five points overall. He is tied for fourth on the team in points, tops among all defensemen. His two goals are also the most among blue liners.
He has plenty of experience playing for his country as York has spent a lot of time with the United States Development Program. In his final season before heading to Michigan, he posted 14 goals and 65 points in 63 games.
While this is also Brink’s second go around with the U20 team, he is no stranger to playing for the United States either. He also spent some time with the USDP at both the U17 and U18 level. In 13 games between the two, he posted eight points.
It is early in Brink’s second collegiate season as Denver has only played three games. Brink does have three assists thus far, though. He is looking to back up a freshman season where he collected 11 goals and 24 assists in 28 games. He was a Rookie of the Year finalist as well.
Emil Andrae, spending his young career in Sweden, has represented his country multiple times before. His recent appearance during the 2019-20 season saw him as captain. He impressed with 12 points in 13 games. Andrae also helped the team earn a bronze medal a season prior to that.
Right now he plays for HV71 in the Swedish league, making the jump from the J20 team. After a very impressive 38 points in 40 games a season ago, things haven’t quite come for him yet. He has just three points in 20 games this season. But he has looked good early on despite the low point total.
Flyers fans will have plenty of time to catch these three in action before the NHL season is set to kick off in about a month.
