One forward was noticeably absent from day one of the Flyers training camp being held in Voorhees, New Jersey.
Tanner Laczynski did not participate in the first day of training camp on Monday, the team announced. According to the official team site that published a blog covering the first day of training camp, Laczynski underwent core-muscle surgery in the off-season.
The timeline for his return is currently unclear, as the team had not made any type of formal announcement regarding the surgery in the offseason. It’s possible that he may miss time in the upcoming regular season, which is just nine days away.

If he doesn’t participate in training camp sometime this week, it’s nearly guaranteed that the young forward will not be ready by the season opener.
Laczynski signed an entry-level contract with the Flyers back in March of last year and had been assigned to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms roster, where he has yet to play an official game with the team. The team drafted him in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft where he was selected in the sixth round.
He played three seasons with the Ohio State University hockey team where he posted some incredible statistics. In the 2019-2020 season, Laczynski scored eleven goals and earned 23 assists in 36 games played.
Should Laczynski not be ready by the season, it could potentially put the Flyers in a bad spot roster-wise to start the year as they look to make another postseason appearance.
We will all just have to see what will happen.
