The Flyers broadcasting team lost yet another member as Bill Clement announced his retirement with less than a week until the upcoming NHL season is set to begin.
Bill Clement, who made his debut as the Flyers color commentator way back in 1989, announced that he is retiring from broadcasting. Clement has been on the NBC Sports Philadelphia broadcast team since 1989. He served as the color commentator from 1989 to 1992 when he stepped aside from the role only to return fifteen years later in 2007.
Bill Meltzer, of NHL.com, announced the news of Clement’s retirement on late Thursday night.

It’s important to note that despite his retirement, he will remain involved in the Flyers Alumni.
Prior to retirement, Clement was the color commentator for all team telecasts and served as a fill-in for Keith Jones, the right-hand man for play-by-play broadcaster Jim Jackson.
Before his broadcasting career, Clement spent eleven seasons in the NHL playing for various teams including Philadelphia where he won the only two Stanley Cup championships the team has in franchise history.
Following the conclusion of his highly-respected NHL career, he began his broadcasting career with ESPN before finally moving on to regional sports networks including Comcast SportsNet/NBC Sports Philadelphia.
The news of Clement’s retirement comes just a day after NBC Sports Philadelphia laid off another member of the broadcast team off – Katie Emmer.
Clement’s countless contributions to each telecast will be forever missed and forever cherished. It’ll be interesting seeing how broadcasts will proceed from here without Clement, but you gotta give it to the man himself – he well-earned this retirement.
Enjoy retirement, Bill Clement!
