We finally witnessed Flyers regular season hockey Wednesday night.

The Flyers and Penguins battled it out on Wednesday at the Wells Fargo Center and it was a very interesting game to watch.

Philadelphia won the game with a 6-2 final score.

Here’s a period-by-period breakdown of all the scoring events that happened throughout the game.

1st Period:

The first period was nothing short of exciting. Between the return of NHL hockey, hockey Twitter going crazy because it looked like Nolan Patrick got a goal, the Flyers getting two power plays and capitalizing on both, it was definitely a fun one to watch.

Early on in the period, Pittsburgh scored first thanks to a goal by Mark Jankowski. The Penguins didn’t have the lead for long because James Van Riemsdyk ended up coming in clutch to tie the game at one. JVR scored on the power play, and it’s just what the team needed.

Welcome back Nolan Patrick! Patrick was credited with a power play goal that was assisted by Erik Gustafsson and Joel Farabee.

Both Gustafsson and Farabee were awarded with assists for the two goals the Flyers scored in the first period.

2nd Period:

The Flyers had a 2-1 lead entering the second period, but they couldn’t hold the lead.

Carter Hart went behind the net in an attempt to pass the puck up and that did not go well for him at all. Crosby stole the puck from Hart and ended up scoring to tie the game up once more – this time at 2 goals apiece.

It only looked bleak for a split second as Philadelphia quickly rebounded after that. Joel Farabee scored a goal, collecting his third point of the night after being credited with two assists in the first period. It was 3-2 Flyers, their second consecutive period where they ended with the lead.

3rd Period:

Entering the third period of play, Philadelphia would go on to have the lead for a good amount of time before squandering it just seconds after Pittsburgh killed the Flyers power play.

Philadelphia, yes again, came back with a goal of their own thanks to beautiful setting up job done by Scott Laughton. Michael Raffl scored the goal, with the assist coming from Laughton.

Oskar Lindblom and Kevin Hayes both score one goal each to provide even more insurance as the guys in orange looked to secure their first win in the first game of the season.

The Flyers held onto this lead and ended up winning the game.
