The Philadelphia Flyers will be partnering with one unexpected company as the team continues to recover from big revenue losses due to COVID-19.

There is a new symbol displayed quite noticeably on the Flyers helmets this year and no, it doesn’t have some type of secret meaning. It’s an advertisement in the form of a company’s initials.

Prior to the season opener on Wednesday, the team made a formal announcement regarding the partnership. The Flyers have partnered with a global IT consulting firm – Tata Consultancy Services. Their initials “TCS” will appear somewhere on the helmets. Per Carchidi’s report, the company’s slogan will not be attached to the helmets. This sponsorship marks the first known sponsorship the Flyers have this season.

The team never disclosed their revenue losses last year, a year where the season abruptly stopped resulting in massive losses in revenue. This year, revenue losses are expected to either be the same as last year or greater.

However, if fans are at some point allowed in the arena, revenue for the team could boost up as ticket sales are a major contributing factor to the team’s revenue.

Earlier this week, the NHL said that they are expecting at least a $2 billion loss this year and that it would be cheaper for the league if they just cancelled this season instead of playing.

The league said that they chose to play because they didn’t want to have fans lose their interest in the sport over time which would obviously lead to negative ramifications in the future. Another reason for their decision to play this season was that they wanted to give fans something to enjoy in a difficult time.

You can’t really tell from the television broadcasts of the game, but it’s just a fun little note to put out there and makes the design of the helmets look nice.
