Flyers sweep series versus Penguins, win 5-2
The Flyers earned another victory on Friday night in a game that seemed like things weren’t going the way they were planned. Amid sloppy defense coming from both sides and additional blunders, the Flyers didn’t let that get in the way of securing their second straight victory.
They ended up winning the game with a final score of 5-2 and send Pittsburgh back home still searching for their first win of the regular season.
Philadelphia came out strong in the first period with three goals, and it was one of the most exciting periods to watch.
First Period:
The Penguins began the game with guns blazing in their offensive zone, but luckily weren’t able to get one in until later in the period with the quick saves made by Carter Hart. Travis Konecny scored two goals in the first period within minutes of each other.
Konecny’s first goal was assisted by Jakub Voracek and Claude Giroux, and the second one in the period was assisted by Nolan Patrick and James Van Riemsdyk.
Ivan Provorov scored a goal following Konecny’s two goals to put the Flyers up 3-0 early in the game.
Sidney Crosby scored a power play goal towards the end of the period to cut back on the Flyers lead. Brandon Tanev found the back of the net to close the gap even more.
Second Period:
Entering the second period, the Flyers were up 3-2. No goals were scored by either team in this period.
Third Period:
The third period gave the Flyers opportunity to give themselves insurance, and it was a fun period for Travis Konecny.
Konecny picked up his third goal of the night, securing his first NHL career hat trick. Gritty throw a hat on the ice, and unfortunately that was the only hat that was thrown onto the ice in this very special occasion.
