The Flyers dominated the Devils on Thursday night at the Prudential Center with a final score of 3-1. Very few shots were made during the first two periods for the Flyers, but they made sure the shots they took in the third period stuck.

1st Period:

Carter Hart was back in the net for this game making a major comeback after Saturday’s 6-1 loss to the Bruins. The first goal of the night was scored early on by Devils’ Damon Severson. However, it didn’t take the Flyers very long to catch up and put themselves right up alongside the Devils. Nate Prosser, who hasn’t played an NHL game in over two years, was the first to score for the team. Prosser was able to sail Erik Gustafsson’s rebound shot into the back of the net to tie the score, where it would remain tied going into the second.

2nd Period:

Nothing happened for either team goal-wise in the second period of the game. There were plenty of shots for the Devils, but Carter Hart stopped them all to keep them at bay. Exiting the second period and going onto the third, the game was still tied at one.

3rd Period:

The Flyers only had eight shots on goal going into the third period, and not one player in the game had multiple shots on goal, but they were quick to turn the tides. Michael Raffl scored after he redirected the rebound on a shot from Connor Bunnaman to put the Flyers in the lead once again. The third and final goal of the night for the Flyers came from captain Claude Giroux off a shot by Erik Gustafsson, making that his second assist of the night. Giroux picked up his first goal of the season with that goal to provide the Flyers even more insurance.

The Flyers came back strong in the third period just like Hart was able to come back strong in the net. Having stopped 33 of the 34 shots on goal, he was able to redeem himself after the post-game breakdown that happened last Saturday.

It seems as though the Flyers have a habit of coming back strong in the final period as fourteen of their overall goals this season have been made in the third period. With the Flyers facing the Devils six more times this season, we’ll see if they can keep up their winning streak.

The Flyers have a complete off-day tomorrow, meaning no team activities including practice, and return back to the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday versus the New York Islanders.
