Philadelphia Flyers forward Morgan Frost will be undergoing surgery to correct a shoulder injury that was sustained this season, according to President of Hockey Operations & General Manager Chuck Fletcher. A return this season is highly unlikely.

Frost was injured after taking an awkward hit from Sabres defenseman Jake McCabe. He left the game early in the second period and was seen being attended to by Flyers medical staff before heading up to the tunnel in clear pain. He ended up not returning to the game.

Days after the game, the team announced that they placed him on the injured reserve list. The team did not include a potential timeline for his return, only saying that he could be out for months. That seems to be the case now with further clarification coming from general manager Chuck Fletcher on Tuesday during his media availability.

The 21-year old center will be headed to Colorado to undergo the surgery. Fletcher did not specify a specific date the young forward is set to have the surgery. It’s important to note, however, that Chuck Fletcher did not completely close the door on Frost returning this season, but it’s extremely unlikely.

Morgan Frost had only appeared in two games, including the one he left prematurely due to the injury, this season. He was the Flyers’ 13th forward and showed promise during the training camp that had to be cut short due to COVID-19.

This is incredibly heartbreaking news as it looked like Frost was on the road to reach his full potential and get a shot at playing with an NHL team. Frost was selected by the Flyers in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, being drafted in the first round.

It’ll be a tough road to recovery, but if anybody can do it – it’s Morgan Frost.
