The Nashville Predators have stated they are going to be sellers and already named their untouchables. Roman Josi, Ryan Ellis and Pekka Rinne are their only three untouchable players currently. This could mean Filip Forsberg is available. If I was Chuck Fletcher, I would make a move for him. Bringing in Forsberg allows you to keep Nolan Patrick on the wing if he is not moved in a trade.
Playing him on a line with James van Riemsdyk and Travis Konecny could be killer. It would bolster the center depth even more on. If the Flyers went this way, you could try to find a way to add in either Granlund, Ekholm, Cousins, or Johansen.
This move helps fill offensive holes, gets you another solid veteran defenseman and another top line forward or second line center. To make this happen, you would have to send an established young forward, two or three prospects and a first round pick.
Obviously these are scenarios that depend on certain contracts and who teams want at the time when the market really opens and takes shape. That is truly when the Flyers will see options of who is available and at that point, what they really need.
Maybe the Flyers figure out these issues that have been bothering them, but overall, they should begin to have the mindset of being buyers and be ready to move young talent for established vets who will make big contributions and really help this future core begin to mold itself.
A top pairing defensemen is the major priority. But if they can upgrade their forwards and depth, they should absolutely take what is available to them.
