It’s an exciting time in Philly sports. The Phillies have their Opening Day game against the Atlanta Braves on Thursday, the 76ers look like they’re ready for a deep run into the NBA playoffs, the Flyers are fighting for a spot in the playoffs, and the Eagles are… well a dumpster fire to be honest.

So out of curiosity, I created a poll to see what fans are looking forward to the most.

Flyers Playoff Push

Let’s start with the Flyers who got 39.1% of the vote, which means about 81 out of the 207 people who voted, voted for them. This is very interesting because they had an abysmal month of March. It’s really shocking to see that fans are looking forward to watching the Flyers the most out of any other team. Let’s be honest, the results of this poll were heavily swayed because Broad Street Buzz retweeted it. It generated a lot more traffic to the poll, but it also created some bias in the poll because hockey fans were the primary voters.

The Flyers are in a very interesting position as they currently sit at 5th place in the Mass Mutual Eastern Division. They are three points behind the Boston Bruins, but the Bruins have two games in hand. On the plus side, Philadelphia has three more games against Boston. They need to win at least two out of the three games they play against them, which is a big ask considering how badly they’ve played recently.

Overall, I hope the Flyers make a push towards the playoffs, and a trade from Chuck Fletcher could help that wish. If they do make a run it would easily be the most exciting thing, however they need to prove that they aren’t the team we all saw in March and I just don’t really see that happening.

76ers Playoff Games

The 76ers received 29% of the vote which means that roughly 60 people voted for them. It’s been fun to watch MVP caliber basketball from Joel Embiid when he actually plays. Ben Simmons still can’t shoot a jumper, but he’s the best defense player in the league! Tobias Harris has played much better than last season and overall this is the best Sixers team we’ve seen in some time.

I think the Sixers will make it far into the playoffs and I can see why people voted for this over anything else. The Sixers are by far the best team in Philly right now. Now only if they’d bring Big Shot back…

Phillies Opening Day

This one gets my vote 100%, however, it only received 25.1% of the vote. I grew up watching Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, Cole Hamels, and the rest of that squad that won five straight division titles. The Flyers were a great team in 2010, but the Phillies were, and still are, my favorite team in the city.

This year the Phillies are looking to make the playoffs for the first time since 2011. Opening Day provides a hope that we’ll have a red October once more.

Last year the Phils’ had one of the top five offenses in baseball and they’re looking to run that back again in 2021. One thing they’re not trying to run back is the absolutely horrendous bullpen. They’ve brought in Archie Bradley and Jose Alvarado to help fix that. The starting pitching still remains a little bit of a question mark. Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler will most likely have good years. Zach Eflin will most likely have a decent year too. The problem is Matt Moore and Chase Anderson. One lefty in both the starting rotation and bullpen? That’s not going to play…

Sorry Harry, but have you seen the Mets and Braves? I don’t think we even have the best lineup in the division. The optimist in me still thinks we somehow have a shot at the wildcard though!

NFL Draft/Eagles

This team is even more of a dumpster fire than the Flyers, who in their right mind would vote for the Eagles? They traded away the six pick and are going to be terrible for the next two or three years. That’s all I have to say about them.

Philadelphia Union Season

I did get one response in favor of the Philadelphia Union! Broad Street Buzz contributor Nick Butler said, “I can’t wait to get back down to the waterfront.”  The Union are so exciting to watch and they never get the recognition they deserve. They won their first trophy in franchise history last year! For all you hockey fans, they won the Supporter’s Shield, which is essentially equal to the President’s Trophy.

The Union did lose some key pieces like Raymond Gaddis and Brenden Aaronson, but they still have a really solid team. They even have Brenden’s brother Paxton joining the team. Also, did you see those new kits they have? Best in the MLS.

I’m really looking forward to seeing four out of the five teams in Philly play again. The Sixers have a real chance to do something this year! I’m skeptical about the Flyers, but a big trade and a few key wins could change my attitude. The Phillies are awesome and the only thing they need to do, other than getting better pitching, is fix the Phillie Phanatic. Last but not least, the Union are defending the shield! Let’s go Philly!
