With Seth Jones and Dougie Hamilton being made available for this upcoming off-season, it will be an absolute disgrace if Chuck Fletcher and the Flyers do not make a push for either one of them.

Reports have come out saying the Flyers will not be pursuing Dougie Hamilton and would prefer Seth Jones, which would be the better option, but both players can bring skill sets that would instantly improve the team.

Dougie Hamilton is a special case. He is a UFA, but would have to be acquired via sign and trade, similar to Kevin Hayes. Seth Jones would be a true trade and would have to re-sign as well. Between the two, Jones is the better option for the Flyers whose defense was absolutely atrocious last season. With Travis Sanheim and Sam Morin being free agents and the potential of Shayne Gostisbehere going to Seattle in the upcoming expansion draft, the defense is going to look a little different.

Now while both defensemen are great in their own right, both players bring different skill sets to the team. Jones is more of a defensive minded player who would compliment Ivan Provorov really well. On the other hand, Hamilton is an offensive minded defensemen who would most likely be a second pairing guy on this team.

The Flyers are still trying to find that complimentary piece to Provorov’s game and fill the void left by Matt Niskanen. I do not think Justin Braun played terribly as Provorov’s partner, but he needs someone who will allow him to be able to pinch and let his offensive game shine.
