First it was Edmonton, then it was Vancouver, and now it’s Calgary. The Flyers are looking to sweep their way through Canada before heading back to the Wells Fargo Center. They’ve faced two tough tests on the trip and things won’t get any easier for them in this one.

As was the case with Vancouver previously and Edmonton as well, this is the first time these two teams will match up since 2019. And of course, there are plenty of new faces for both squads.

Philadelphia Flyers

Record: 4-1-1 (9 points; fourth in Metro)

Scoring has been the name of the game for the Flyers. Cam Atkinson has led the way with six goals in his first five games. He did not register a point in Philadelphia’s win over Vancouver, ending a personal best streak to start a season. Claude Giroux continued his own point streak, though. Assisting on both goals gave Giroux eight points in six games. He is off to the best start of his career with points in every single game.

With the absence of Ryan Ellis, Justin Braun has stepped up to partner with Ivan Provorov. Not much of it shows up in the scoresheet, but he has been his usual steady self. Not to mention he also has five points already, one away from tying the six he posted in 53 games last year.

Carter Hart will be back in net as he looks to continue what has been a strong start for him. He hasn’t been perfect and there have been some tough goals to swallow. But he is playing with a different type of confidence than what we saw last year. Him and Jones have formed a solid duo in net in the early going.

Projected Lineup

Giroux – Couturier – Konecny

Farabee – Brassard – Atkinson

Lindblom – Laughton – van Riemsdyk

Brown – Thompson – MacEwen

Provorov – Braun

Sanheim – Ristolainen

Yandle – Seeler

Calgary Flames

The Flames come in on their own hot streak as they took all five games of their Eastern Conference road trip. They outscored opponents 21-7. Two of their wins came in shutout fashion. Andrew Mangiapane has seven goals in seven games, accounting for all of his points thus far. Johnny Gaudreau has 10 points on the season, registering a point in all but Calgary’s opening game of the season. He has four multi-point games as well.

Jacob Markstrom, in his second season with Calgary, has been stellar. He’s posted a 1.59 GAA and holds a .952 SV% in five games. He’s only given up a single goal in his last three game so it’s going to be tough to get the puck past him. It’s even more impressive that he’s faced 107 shots over that span. That accounts to 106 saves and a near perfect save percentage.

Projected Lineup

Gaudreau – Lindholm – Tkachuk

Coleman – Backlund – Pitlick

Mangiapane – Dube – Ritchie

Lucic – Monahan – Lewis

Andersson – Tanev

Kylington – Stone

Välimäki – Gudbranson
