Off an electric performance from Carter Hart, the Flyers are hoping Martin Jones can continue his strong start to the season as well. After a 2-1 win over Carolina, Philadelphia is in Dallas to take on the Stars.
Dallas is in the midst of a two-game losing streak so they will be hungry for a win. They have beaten the Flyers in three out of their last four matchups. The Stars also have a five-game home point streak against Philadelphia.
After putting a 3-0 shutout loss behind them, the Flyers used a big third period to give the Hurricanes their first loss at PNC Arena. Joel Farabee broke an eight-game goalless drought while Zack MacEwen scored his first goal with Philadelphia. It was Hart who led the way with his marvelous performance.
Philadelphia Flyers
Record: 7-3-2 (16 points, 4th in Metro)
Philadelphia will be wrapping up a stretch of three games in four nights that have seem them in three different cities. This is the first time the Flyers have seen the Stars since October of 2019 where Dallas captured a 4-1 victory. So it’s been over two years since the two teams have played each other.
After a hot start to the season, the Flyers offense has cooled off quite a bit. They were able to do just enough in their victory over Carolina. They’ve been shutout twice in their last six games and only scored more than two in one of those games. They’ll be facing a desperate Stars team who may look to take some risks that Philadelphia could take advantage of.
Sean Couturier and Claude Giroux still lead the team in points with 12 apiece. Giroux’s 12 points came in 10 games as he’s gone pointless in the last two. He’s only failed to register a point in three games total. Justin Braun continues to have the hot hand as his eight points are tied for second on the team and tops among defensemen. He’s registered more points in 12 games than he did 53 games a season ago. He could break his Flyers’ career high of 19 points set during his first season with the team.
Jones will be looking for another quality start in net as he’ll be between the pipes for this one. He’s posted an incredible .950 SV% and holds a 1.67 GAA in three games thus far. Both of those lead all goaltenders. He’s also given up just one goal in each of this last two games.
With no morning skate, it wasn’t known until closer to game time that Ryan Ellis would be in the lineup. Alain Vigneault previously said he felt confident Ellis would return tonight. Kevin Hayes was activated from LTIR and will be in the lineup as well. With Nicolas Aube-Kubel being claimed off waivers, the way was paved for Hayes to return.
Projected Lineup
Giroux – Couturier – van Riemsdyk
Farabee – Hayes – Atkinson
Brassard – Laughton – Konecny
Lindblom – Thompson – MacEwen
Provorov – Braun
Sanheim – Ristolainen
Yandle – Ellis
Jones
Dallas Stars
Record: 4-6-2 (10 points, 6th in Central)
It hasn’t been easy going for the Stars to start the season. They are 1-4-2 in their last seven games and are coming off a disappointing loss to the Predators that saw the team hold a team-only closed door meeting. They’ll have a few new faces in the lineup when they take on the Flyers.
After waiving Blake Comeau and Tanner Kerp as well as reassigning Thomas Harley to the AHL, the Stars called up Riley Tufte and Jacob Peterson. The former will be making his NHL debut. He was the 25th overall pick in the 2016 Draft. Peterson made the team out of camp, registering a point in six games.
Miro Heiskanen has been off to a strong start, registering 12 points in 12 games. Tyler Seguin leads the Stars in goals (4) after only being able to appear in three games last season.
It’ll be Anton khudobin in net as Braden Holtby is day-to-day with a lower-body injury. Khudobin found out last night that he would be getting the start. It hasn’t been the best start for him as he’s given up three goals in each of his last three games. He holds a 3.27 GAA and a .885 SV% so this could be the perfect time for the Flyers offense to break out.
Projected Lineup
Robertson – Hintz – Pavelski
Peterson – Seguin – Radulov
Raffl – Benn – Gurianov
Tufte – Faksa – Glendening
Lindell – Klingberg
Suter – Heiskanen
Sekera – Hakanpaa
Khudobin
