The horrendous Philadelphia Flyers met up with the New Jersey Devils for the newest installment of the Battle of the Turnpike this Wednesday evening. Things did not go well for the orange and black.

The Good:

HART IS STILL ELITE: There are only so many ways and so many times I can parrot myself. Carter Hart kept this team in the game far more than they deserved. Despite having zero support in every other facet of the game, Hart managed to keep it an incredibly manageable game, basically throughout the duration, though the team completely failed him.

DRESSED FOR SUCCESS: I am a noted fan of hockey jerseys. I collect them. Tonight the New Jersey Devils dressed in a sweater that is fairly objectively hideous. That is all.

The Bad:

ScoriNOmi: The Flyers do not score goals. This is bad.

PENALTIES: Tonight the Flyers took a number of unnecessary penalties. Van Riemsdyk could very possibly see supplemental discipline for his boarding of Michael McLeod. And a penalty late in the second led directly to the Devils scoring a second goal, something the Philadelphia offense has made very clear is a hurdle too high to overcome.

The Ugly:

THE FLYERS CANT SCORE: It was in the bad, and it’s in the ugly. The Flyers can not score. Up until the third period, they didn’t register a single high-danger chance. You can not win games unless you score at least once, at it seems that no matter who is behind the bench, the Flyers can’t do that.

THE ONE MAN OFFENSE: When the captain is working, the Flyers are working. Claude Giroux is basically the entirety of the team’s offense at this point. If he puts up points? The team scores. If he has an off night? The team doesn’t. No matter how many issues exist with this team, running the entire offense through one man does not work. And will not work. And the Flyers won’t start winning until everyone else starts picking up the slack.
