Morgan Frost only ended up playing 1:12 in the Flyers blowout win over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night. He was pulled from the game and there was no immediate response on what happened. He went off for a line change, sat on the bench, and was then seen heading down the tunnel.
After the game, Mike Yeo was immediately asked about Frost’s status. And it was not injury related at all.
"“Obviously I thought he had a good start to the game and then I was told due to COVID-19 protocols that he had to be removed from the game. That’s all I have for you right now. I know that we’ll have more on him and his status tomorrow morning.”"
The Flyers are set to head to Montreal for a quick one-game trip to take on the Canadiens. And they could be doing so without Frost.
Frost isn’t the only player to have been put into protocol this evening. The Flames have already been shut down as they’ve had 10 players enter protocol in that last 24 hours or so. The Canucks have had four players enter. And the Hurricanes and Wild were postponed this evening due to players entering protocol.
The league has seen over 20 players enter protocol in the last 36 hours or so. And if they aren’t able to find a way to control the spread, we could see much more enhanced precautions put in place. The league is probably likely to do everything it can to avoid a shutdown.
"“We’re aware of what’s going on around the league. And everyone’s health is obviously at the top of our list of what’s most important as well as making sure that we take the right precautions here.”"
At the moment, Frost is the only Flyers player to enter protocol. While vaccinated players are only subject to testing every three days, it’s possible we could see that change at some point with the outbreaks we have seen recently.
Frost has appeared in 10 games for Philadelphia, posting one goal and four points. The Flyers currently do not have an extra forward if Frost is unable to accompany them on their trip to Canada.
They have the available cap space to call someone up if need be, though. Jackson Cates would likely be the easy choice as the team likely wants to give Wade Allison a few more games at the AHL level.
Frost’s health is the most important thing right now as the team will find out what to do next very soon.
