In what many think could be his final All-Star game as a part of the Flyers, Claude Giroux showed out. Giroux came into the weekend as the captain of the Metropolitan Divison after Alex Ovechkin was forced out due to a positive COVID test. So he missed the final game before the break and could no longer be the captain of the Metro. While Tom Wilson replaced his Washington teammate, Giroux was given the honor of being captain.

To kick off the All-Star weekend, Giroux’s lone Skills Competiton event was one of the newest added to the docket in Las Vegas: the Discover NHL Fountain Face-Off. The event was held directly in the Bellagio Fountains. Players traveled by boat to a rink that was set up on the water. In the first round, players had to score on four nets in the least amount of time. The. two who made it to the final then had to do the same thing on five nets this time.

Giroux was the second player to take part and finished the inaugural event with a time of 22.6 seconds. And to up the ante of the event, Giroux and fellow competitor Jordan Eberle reportedly had a wager going on based on who would get the better time. It was the Flyers captain that got the better of it as Eberle finished with a time of 27.9 seconds.

Giroux would not end up making it to the final round as it was between Romi Josi, who blew everyone away at 11.85 seconds, and Zach Werenski, who finished at 15.16 seconds. Werenski would end up defeating Josi in the second round.

The following night, the Metro kicked things off as they took on the Pacific Divison in the first of three games. Right from the get-go, it was clear that Giroux meant business and was ready to lead his team to victory. He finished the first game with a goal and assist while tallying eight shots.

After a 6-4 victory over the Pacific, the Metro had a chance to relax as the Central took on the Atlantic. A frontrunner for MVP, Jordan Kyrou was a star for the Central as he registered four points in their 8-5 victory. So it was the kid against the veteran as their squads battled for a chance to share a million dollars. And we got to see both of them shine in the final game.

It was Giroux who got the best of the matchup as he scored twice to help lead the Metro to a 5-3 victory. And at the end of it all, Giroux took home the MVP honors in his seventh career All-Star Game. He became the third Flyers’ player to earn MVP, joining Wayne Simmonds and Reggie Leach.

And to make the weekend even better, Giroux was able to spend it with his wife, Ryanne, and son, Gavin. The latter was able to spend a majority of the Skills Competiton on the bench and the ice during the event. It was obviously the first time Giroux was able to have his son out there with him.

If this is one of the final times that Giroux represents the Flyers, he made sure to go out with a bang.
