The Philadelphia Flyers will take on the Colorado Avalanche in their second Central division matchup in two nights. Last night, the Flyers traveled to St. Louis to battle the Blues, earning their first road win in the year 2022. In a game that plenty of fans chose not to watch, preferring to check-in on Claude Giroux’s debut with the Florida Panthers and assuming the Blues would beat Philadelphia badly, it seems a lot of fans have missed what may have been the best game played all season by the Flyers.

They also missed some of Philadelphia’s best young players shining in orange and black. Now the Flyers will be in Colorado tonight, hoping to pull off the same shocking outcome before they go on to face a few of the other powerhouses that reside in the Central Division.

Philadelphia Flyers

Record: 21-32-11 (53 pts, 7th in Metro)

After last night’s game vs the Blues, there were a lot of positive takeaways from Philadelphia’s performance. One of them is that Hayden Hodgson, who was just signed by the Flyers around the trade deadline, made his NHL debut and scored one goal and one assist. He provided crucial play on both ends of the ice to help the Flyers stay head of St. Louis. He was rewarded by the team for his play by being given the bomber jacket in the locker room, which goes to the player of the game and is decided by fellow teammates and coaches.

Tippett played a lot of time with Morgan Frost and finally got on the scoreboard with an assist by the end of the game. Frost, who has really thrived in his role at the center position, used to play with Tippett when they were younger and it shows with how well they seemed to compliment each other’s playing styles.

Expect to hear all three of those names a lot tonight, along with others like Travis Konecny, Kevin Hayes, and Joel Farabee, if the Flyers hope to stand a chance at beating the best team in the NHL.

Projected Lineup

van Riemsdyk – Farabee – Atkinson

Willman – Hayes – Konecny

Hodgson – Frost – Tippett

Colorado Avalanche

Record: 45-14-5 (95 pts; 1st in Central)

The Colorado Avalanche are currently ranked first in the entire NHL, leading the Florida Panthers by three points, and also sit atop of the Western Conference with a whopping 11-point lead over the rest of the west.

After losing captain Gabriel Landeskog for at least the remainder of the regular season, the Avalanche have still shown almost zero sign in slowing down as they aim to greatly surpass the 100-point mark on the season in attempt to go into the Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Presidents’ Trophy under their belts. They’ll have a chance to increase their lead over the rest of the Central Division if they beat the Flyers tonight, especially after Philadelphia handed St. Louis a loss on the road last night.

Projected Lineup

Nichushkin – MacKinnon – Rantanen

Burakovsky – Kadri – O’Connor

Newhook – Sturm – Compher

Cogliano – Helm – Aube-Kubel

Toews – Makar

J. Johnson – Manson

MacDermaid – E. Johnson
